Artist: Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Album: Fever to Tell
Maps is an esoteric number in the summer album of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, a rock band, thoroughly enjoyable in its repetitive intensity. It starts and ends with plucked electronic guitars and an almost-tribal drum beat, inviting the listener into the vortex of the impressionistic vocals full of emotion. It gets better each time to listen to it, as you delve into the complex layers in the soundtrack, with an almost hypnotic quality.
I have absolutely no idea what the lyrics are supposed to mean, especially the parts that go “Pack up. I’ve strayed” and “They don’t love you like I love you”. Actually there are two different versions of the first line on the internet, either “I’m straight” or “I’ve strayed”. Perhaps the commentators here can enlighten you better than me.
