Lampposts

I went jogging yesterday along one of the canals, and lo and behold, the first sight that greeted me was a poster of Mas Selamat on the lampposts. Okay, quite normal, all the government has done in the past one week is give us useless information about Selamat and assure us that they are doing a good job, while giving us no information about the escape itself.

Three seconds later, the next lamppost came into view, with an identical poster, laminated against the rain. Hold on, deja vu, didn’t I see this poster 10 metres ago? Looking ahead, it turns out every single lamp-post along the way carries a four-part mugshot of Selamat.

What WERE the authorities afraid of? That Selamat was going to come running of the jungle in between one of the lampposts, and that amnesiac people might forget how he looks like, in between the posts?

Talk about waste of time, trees and plastic.
